At
the last annual election of the Society חסד
ואמת "Mercy and
Truth," of Philadelphia, the following gentlemen were elected
officers for the current year:
Morris
H. De Young, President; Joseph Levy, Treasurer; D. A. Phillips, Secretary;
Julius Davidson, J. G. Myers, H. Marcus, and Samuel Hunt, Managers; Dr.
Samuel M'Clellan, Physician, and Elias Linse, Messenger.--We learn in a
note from the Secretary, that the Society is acting in union, and the
funds are rapidly increasing. The number of members is twenty-six, and a
farther accession is earnestly desired.
At
the annual meeting of the Ladies' Hebrew Sewing Society, held October
19th, 5606, the following ladies were elected officers for the
current year:
Miss
Louisa B. Hart First, Directress; Miss Bluma Hart, Second Directress; Miss
Julia N. Carvalho, Treasurer; Miss Amelia J. Allen, Secretary; and Misses
Rachel Pesoa, Sarah Abrahams, Isabella Arnold, Hester Stork, and Pauline
Cromelien, Managers.
Miss
I. Arnold resigned, and Miss Sophia De Young was appointed in her place.
At
the last annual election for officers of the Hebrew Congregation of
Baltimore, the following gentlemen were elected to serve during the
current year:
Leon
Dyer, President; S. Rosenwald, Treasurer; L. Hammerslaugh,
M.
Fleishman, and M. Rosenfeld, Electors, and Rev. A. Rice, Secretary.
At
an annual meeting of the Hebrew Congregation--"Shanarai
Chassed," of New Orleans, held at their Synagogue on Sunday, October
26, 1845, (corresponding with 25th Tishri, 5606,) the following gentlemen
were elected to office for the ensuing year:
Isaac
Hart, President; A. Haber, Vice-President; J. Marks, Treasurer; B. W.
Cohen, Secretary; Ferdinand Hirsch, L. Hess, J. Raphael, Trustees.
At
the annual meeting of the Congregation Beneh Israel, of Cincinnati,
the following gentlemen were elected officers for the ensuing year:
Morris
Moses, Parnass; A. Weiler, Gabah Zedokah; L. Tanenwald, Gabah Beth Hiam;
Lewis Einstein, Treasurer; M. Ezekiel, Secretary.
At
a meeting of the Hebrew Benevolent Society of Cincinnati, the
following gentlemen were elected officers for the year:
Elias
Mayer, President; Philip Heidelbach, Vice-President; Phineas Moses,
Treasurer; Benjamin Symonds, Secretary.
This
Society has only been in existence three years. It has accumulated a very
handsome fund, and has relieved a great many poor persons during the time.
At
a meeting of the Hebrew Ladies' Benevolent Society of Cincinnati, the
following ladies were elected officers for this year:
Mrs.
Elias Mayer, Patroness; Mrs. Joseph Jonas, Treasurer; Mrs. Joseph Abraham,
Secretary; Mrs. Louisa Symonds, Visiting Committee.
This
Society has been instituted about six years. Its object is to relieve the
female poor. It has a good treasury, and has soothed many an aching heart.
