The Congregation Shaaray Tefilla, of New York, have
given their worthy minister, the Rev. S. M. Isaacs,
permission to pay a visit to England. We understand
that Mr. Isaacs expects to go out in the beginning
of February, and to return before Passover. We
sincerely wish him a pleasant voyage out and home,
and a happy reunion with his family.
Jamaica.—We regret to perceive, from the papers sent
us from Kingston, that the cholera has at length
reached the southern part of Jamaica, and was
spreading into the interior. At the same time it is
gratifying to perceive that our brothers are active
in alleviating the distress around them, and proving
that they always are ready to act. when danger
calls. We also see that the Rev. Henry S. Jacobs, Hazan of Spanish Town, and Rev. Solomon Jacobs,
Hazan of the German Synagogue at Kingston, have
improved the opportunity to address the words of
admonition to their flocks. Let us hope that the
hearts of many may be turned to the Lord. and that
this calamity may thus become a spiritual healing to
those who otherwise might have neglected their God
and his law. |
