The dedication of the new Synagogue at Buffalo took
place on Friday, the 26th of July, by the Rev. S. M.
Isaacs, of New York,
as previously announced; the
whole proceedings went off with general
satisfaction, and the sum of six hundred dollars was
collected from the audience, although no especial
effort was made to effect this. As a mark of their
sense of the disinterested services of Mr. I., the
congregation, at their special meeting on the 29th,
passed the following resolutions, which we insert as
requested:
“At a meeting of several members of the Synagogue,
Beth El ,of Buffalo, held on the 29th instant, the
President of the congregation, M. Moritz, Esq,. was
called to the chair.
“The Chairman briefly stated the object of this
meeting, when, on motion, a Committee was appointed
to draft resolutions expressing the feelings of the
members of this congregation towards the Rev. S. M.
Isaacs, and also towards the congregation, ‘Gates of
Prayer’ of New York. The Committee then retired, and
upon return, offered the following resolutions,
which were unanimously adopted:
“Resolved,
are the thanks of this congregation are justly due
to and are hereby tendered to the Rev. S. M. Isaacs,
of New York, for the alacrity with which he
responded to an invitation extended to him, to
direct the ceremonies of dedicating our Synagogue,
in this city; for the excellent manner in which he
conducted the whole affair; and for the very erudite
and eloquent discourse delivered by him on the
occasion.
“Resolved,
That the thanks of this congregation are also due,
and are hereby tendered, to the congregation ‘Gates
of Prayer’ of New York, for their permission so
graciously accorded to the Reverend gentleman to
visit this city; for their generosity in kindly
granting us the loan of several
ספרים and
appurtenances for our use on the occasion of the
late consecration, and for their kind feelings as
evinced and expressed by their letter to us of the
21st instant.
“Resolved,
That copies of these resolutions, duly
authenticated, be transmitted to the Rev. S. M.
Isaacs, and also to the congregation ‘Gates of
Prayer’ of New York.
“Resolved,
That the proceedings of this meeting be published in
the Asmonean and Occident.
