“Insults of the Obscene” Redux:
The Massacre That Never Was

Last year, we wrote an editorial titled “Insults of the Obscene,” in which we demonstrated that the very people who persist in calling the Israelis “racists” and “Nazis” were themselves the greatest racists and genocidal murderers. “Insults of the Obscene” is a verse in Psalms, 39:9: חרפת נבל אל תשימני From all my sins, save me, and put not upon me the insults of the obscene. What this means is: Do not allow me to be accused, falsely, by the ones who are themselves guilty of what they accuse me!

Since the beginning of the ongoing terror war against the free world, the terrorists have become more and more outrageous in their shrill litany of lies against Israel and the Jews. There is no falsehood too blatant, no comparison too odious, no exaggeration too bloated, no accusation too grotesque for the media to gobble up and regurgitate for a worldwide audience, who swallow it all without raising an eyebrow.

Since the beginning of the Oslo “Intifada,” the parade of propaganda has included the gamut from the silly (a story a female Israeli soldier lured Arab youths by performing a striptease, and then drew a pistol hidden in her underwear to shoot the boys at close range) to the medieval (the ancient “Blood Libel” resurrected in a Saudi newspaper) to the downright despicable (the comparison of the Israelis to “Nazis” for putting “tattoos” on the hands of captured terrorists using magic marker pens). The “Big Lie” technique invented by Goebbels, of repeating a falsehood over and over and over and over again, has been refined and perfected and taken to a whole new dimension of audacity. It is impossible to keep ahead. For every lie exposed as false,  a dozen new ones, even more outrageous, take its place.

The outrage du jour, just in time for the commemoration of Israel’s Yom Hazikaron, Memorial Day, concerns a “massacre” alleged to have been carried out by the Israeli Army against Palestinians in the Jenin refugee camp. According to British journalist Phil Reeves, a longtime Palestinian partisan, the Israelis attempted to cover up a “monstrous war crime” by barring journalists from entering the camp during “Operation Defensive Shield.” However, Reeves assured his readers, he heard firsthand from “people desperate to tell what had occurred” that hundreds of dead bodies were buried underneath the rubble of their demolished homes and bulldozed into mass graves. Reeves admits that no mass graves of hundreds of dead bodies have been found, which to him, only “proves” that the alleged culprits have been very clever in “covering it up.” He quotes a Professor Pounder from Dundee University, who is confident, after interviewing “credible” witnesses, that eventually proof of a war crime will turn up. So far, the documented body count is less than 100, all of whom have been identified as armed combatants. What this really means is that the only “hard evidence” any “war crime” has taken place is the testimony of people who have a reputation of being pathological liars.

Such is the mindset of the terrorists and their apologists. First they accuse the Israelis of committing a “war crime” and then explain the lack of evidence as “proof” of a “cover up.” The people who jump to compare the Israelis to the Nazis with the most specious of analogies never stop for even one second to consider what real Nazis would do in Israel’s situation:

After one suicide bombing, all the immediate and extended family of the suicide bomber would be executed.

After the second suicide bombing, the entire village of the suicide bomber would be razed, after the execution of all the inhabitants.

After the third suicide bombing…but you get the picture.

Why haven’t the Israelis done this? Well, could it just possibly be, in spite of all the screaming and the finger-pointing, that just maybe, they are nothing like the Nazis? That they are extraordinarily mild, restrained and civilized in the face of relentless barbarism? In fact, it can be said that the Israelis, who have been taking the equivalent (for their country) of a September 11th attack every week, have been less forceful even than the Americans, who bombed thousands of Afghanis during air strikes on Al Qaeda and Taliban targets in Kabul, Kandahar and Tora Bora with sub-nuclear “daisy cutters”.

Do I think the Israelis should become more forceful in their response to terrorism? Yes. Do I think they should lower themselves to the level of their enemies by engaging in the atrocities of which they are being unjustly accused. No!

I don’t have a solution to the Mideast problem. I don’t have a “peace plan” other than to put my faith and trust in the One who “makes peace in the heavens, make peace on us and on all Israel.”

Amen!
