This week, the normally respectable “Jewish Week”
newspaper ran an ecstatic, obsequious panegyric to the careers of a group
of mambo priestesses described as “Lesbian rabbis.” In a gushing review of
“Lesbian
Rabbis: The First Generation,” reporter David Belasco lionizes the efforts
of ultra-feminists who “led the way” (to where?) in forcing open
homosexuality upon society. These pioneering “Lesbian Rabbis” were all
drawn to the pulpits of the Reform and Reconstructionist movements by
their “myriad passions for Yiddish, Zionism, textual studies or social
justice,” not by any motivation to observe G-d’s commandments or to accept
the yoke of Torah and mitzvot. On the contrary, flouting rabbinical
authority and undermining the divine source of scripture has always been
the primary objective of radical feminism and homosexualism. They compose prayers borrowing Hebraic liturgical
phraseology and incorporate Judaic symbols to accommodate a manufactured
religion, which resembles Judaism as much as Santería voodoo resembles
Catholicism.
The “rabbinical” lesbian priestesses like to invoke
analogies between their formerly closeted, hidden sexual activities and
להבדיל the clandestine worship of the
Jewish conversos during the Spanish Inquisition. The problem with
this analogy, is that the conversos risked their lives to continue
the worship of the one true G-d, to maintain the integrity of divine
revelation from generation to generation, to ponder on the truths of
eternity. They were prepared to give up their lives for the sanctification
of G-d’s holy name. This is not the same as sneaking away to have sex.
Lesbians also like to invoke a tricky little loophole to justify their
conduct: female homosexuality is not explicitly condemned by scripture, as
male homosexuality is (Leviticus 18:22). Female homosexuality is, however,
forbidden by rabbinic law as part of the general prohibition against
sexual debauchery, לא תהיה קדשה מבנות ישראל ולא
יהיה קדש מבני ישראל
“There shall be no promiscuity among the
daughters of Israel, neither shall there be promiscuity among the sons of
Israel.” (Deuteronomy 23:18) Lesbian activity is forbidden by Jewish law
as an issur me’de’rabannan (a rabbinic prohibition) rather than an
issur me’de’oraisa (a scriptural prohibition).
In plain English, this means it is a sin. It is
wrong.
It is not something to be celebrated or applauded.
The author of “Lesbian Rabbis: The First Generation”
takes a gratuitous pot-shot at the Jewish Theological Seminary of
Conservative Judaism, blasting their vestigial shreds of traditional
morality: “Until the Conservative movement bites the bullet and accepts
gays and lesbians, there will still be a first generation.” But this has
nothing whatever to do with the policies of the JTS, (those stubborn
Orthodox will always be there) but with biological reality. Every
generation of homosexuals, by definition, must be a “first generation.”
All the gays and lesbians who ever walked this earth were the result of a
heterosexual relationship. No gay or lesbian couple can produce offspring
without some third-party assistance. Homosexuals who desire to become
parents symbiotically require a population of dysfunctional heterosexual
untermenschen who will supply them with abused and neglected
children to adopt. Lesbians have the equipment to grow their own babies,
but must have “stud service.” But even this grotesque scenario is not
without complications. My son, a heterosexual rabbi of the Orthodox
denomination, was wheeling his baby daughter through the mall when he was
accosted by a total stranger, another proud papa with a wallet full of
baby pictures. After admiring each other’s babies, the proud papa
confessed to my son that his little girl was being raised by two mommies,
to whom he had provided a syringe of his sperm. Of course, he explained,
the two mommies kept him up-to-date on "Heather’s" development, sending
photos for him to display to anyone he might run into at the mall.
But the adoption of other people’s children to be
raised in gay “families” is no guarantee that these children will grow up
to become gay themselves. We are constantly told that homosexuals are
“born that way,” but no “gay gene” has yet been discovered. However, with
more openly gay people in positions (such as: teacher, minister, priest,
rabbi, scout leader, etc.) where they can be role models and mentors to
sexually insecure young people, there will have more opportunities to
recruit the “next generation.” Anyone who objects to this societal
restructuring for reasons of scriptural morality must be, well, a
“homophobe,” which is a sin even greater than racism. After all, we are
told, the Bible
condones slavery, (well,
not really) says witches must not be allowed to live, and
recommends the death penalty for everything from Sabbath-breaking to
teenage rebellion. Oh no, the Bible is certainly a "cruel and unusual"
document which enlightened, progressive humans must discard! This attitude
contradicts the enthusiasm the feminist rabbis have for public Torah
readings, but that is something they have yet to explain.
What’s going to happen when the adopted children of
these “brave new” homosexual families grow up, and reveal that some
homosexual families can be just as dysfunctional as they claim the
straight families are? What happens when these “gay” children grow up and
discover that they were born straight? Will there be multimillion-dollar
lawsuits, shocking autobiographies, and appearances on TV talk shows to
reveal the horror of childhood sexual trauma? Imagine teenage Heather
coming home: “Mom! Mom! You’ll never believe this guy I met at the mall!”
Now, this may be a “worst-case” scenario, but even the most optimistic
projections of this “brave new” social experimentation will probably not
yield a large crop of “born and raised” homosexuals from completely gay
families.
For the “Lesbian Rabbis” to call themselves “the
biggest social revolution in Judaism in the last several decades” is the
epitome of elitism and arrogance. The greatest social revolution in
Judaism over the last generation has not been the ordination, by the most
liberal denominations, of a handful of deviants, but the immense growth
of Orthodoxy, not only by natural increase, but by thousands of estranged
Jews returning to their ancient roots. Hasidic Judaism, declared
“virtually extinct” after the Holocaust, is today experiencing a
“population explosion” as its members follow the commandment to “be
fruitful and multiply” and raise large families of many children, children
who will grow up in the faith of the patriarchs and the matriarchs.
This is the hope of the next Jewish generation, and
of many generations to come. |
